The Arm Lift Procedure
In some cases, ultrasonic liposuction alone may be an adequate procedure because it removes excess fat from your arm and can cause slight tightening. For other cases, Dr. Mandraccia makes an incision on the inner surface of the upper arm that can run from the armpit down as far as the elbow. Then he removes excess skin and fat before gently stretching and suturing the remaining skin back into place.
Recovery from Arm Lift Surgery
You may experience some moderate pain after the arm lift procedure, and a small tube may be placed into your incisions to help the excess fluid drain out. During your initial recovery, Dr. Mandraccia will prescribe you an oral medication to control any pain.
You will need to wear a special compression garment to keep the new sculpted skin in the correct positioning and help it adhere to the tissue underneath. Dr. Mandraccia will remove your stitches about one to two weeks after your arm lift procedure, and you should be able to return to work and resume most normal activities at that time. You’ll need to avoid strenuous exercise and contact sports for at least one month.
Risks & Complications
Although rare, the most common risks include:
- An adverse reaction to the anesthesia
- Excessive bleeding
- Asymmetry or irregularities
- Infection
- Nerve damage
Dr. Mandraccia performs most arm lift procedures under IV sedation, in the privacy of his own office. His facility has recently been certified by the Florida Board of Health as meeting its stringent requirements.
