Facelift Surgery ( Rhytidectomy )

Sagging or wrinkled skin occurs naturally as you get older. Heredity, poor diet, smoking, or obesity may also contribute to early or severe skin problems. A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to repair some of the visible damage to skin, fat, and muscles, giving you an overall younger look. Dr. Mandraccia performs facelifts and many of his patients in the Fort Myers area combine facelifts with nose reshaping, forehead and browlift surgery, or eyelid surgery. WE also offer the new short-scar facelift! Call (239) 633-8819 to learn more by scheduling a consultation today.

The Facelift Procedure

Dr. Mandraccia performs facelifts using a series of incisions above the hairline near the temple; the incisions extend down toward the ears. Through these incisions:

  • The skin is gently separated from the muscle and tissue below it.
  • Excess fat is removed.
  • The underlying tissue and muscles are tightened.
  • Sagging facial skin is gently pulled tight over the bone structure so it is smooth and taunt.
  • Excess skin is removed before the incisions are closed.

At the end of the Rhytidectomy procedure, Dr. Mandraccia stitches the incisions closed in a way that leaves virtually undetectable scars. After the healing process, your face will have a more vibrant, youthful appearance.

Recovery from Facelifts

Recovery time varies for each individual, but you should be able to return to work and all normal activities between 10 and 14 days after your facelift procedure. Swelling should be minimal in most if the patient follows to doctor’s instructions. Planning ahead and creating a facelift recovery space will ensure a comfortable and safe healing process.

The Best Candidates for Facelifts

Facelifts are most commonly performed on both men and women ranging from the age of 40 to 80. The best candidates are those:

  • who have facial skin that has begun to sag or wrinkle,
  • yet whose skin still retains some elasticity,
  • and who have a well-defined bone structure.

Dr. Mandraccia also performs alterations to facelifts performed by other cosmetic surgeons that did not produce the desired results.

Dr. Mandraccia does most procedures under IV sedation with certified nurse anesthesia in the privacy of his own office, which has been certified by the Florida Board of Health as meeting its stringent requirements. Patients can opt for general anesthesia in the surgery center located in our building that is jointly owned by Lee Memorial and Naples Community Hospitals. Dr. Mandraccia will address all of your facelift questions during your consultation.
