What is PRGF?

Your blood contains a number of frankly extraordinary elements. Among these elements are platelets, which are crucial for a number of important tasks, the most well-known of which is clotting. It's platelets that prevent you from suffering significant blood loss every time you suffer a minor cut.

But platelets also contain “growth factors,” which stimulate the growth and regeneration of cells. Put simply, these growth factors aid healing and recovery.

In recent years, medical science has discovered how to take advantage of your blood's natural healing agents. Cosmetic surgery has not been far behind in these advances, and now Fort Myers-area patients can even use PRGF(R) to aid hair restoration.

The Process

In order to acquire the growth factors we need, we'll start by taking a small amount of your blood. We then spin it a high-speed centrifuge; this separates your blood from your plasma. A second trip through the centrifuge concentrates the platelet rich growth factors that we need.

Once Dr. Mandraccia has the PRGF, he then injects and applies the material to your scalp. The growth factors in the substance signal the cells in the area to start growing and healing. This stimulates the growth of new hair where it hasn't grown in a while.

Of course, we'll provide you with a more detailed explanation at a hair restoration consultation. Dr. Mandraccia will also answer all of your questions and help you decide if PRGF-aided hair restoration is right for you.
