Customizing Your Breast Implant Procedure

Once you have determined that breast implants are the right breast surgery procedure for you, there are several other decisions that will need to be made regarding:

  • The type of implant used
  • The size of your implants
  • Your implant placement
  • Your incision location

It's important to consider all of your options before making your final decisions.

Breast Implant Types - Saline or Silicone?

Both saline and silicone implants are safe and effective breast enhancement options. Generally saline implants can be easily adjusted, are easier to replace and tend to have a lower rate of capsulation and deflation than silicone.

Alternatively, many breast implant patients find that silicone implants have a more natural look and feel than saline implants.

The type of breast implant you choose will ultimately depend on your aesthetic goals and physical needs.

Implant Size and Placement

When it comes to the size and placement of your breast implants, it's important to consider your lifestyle first and foremost. If you regularly participate in rigorous physical activities like body-building or other demanding athletics, you may want to consider a more moderate size.

Additionally, the subglandular or submuscular placement of your implants will have an impact on how comfortably you will be able to perform certain activities.

Dr. Mandraccia will take the time to discuss these options with you in person depending on your individual lifestyle requirements.

Incision Options

There are three main breast implant incision locations:

  • Periariolar (around the nipple) - Produces the least obvious scarring but does not accommodate silicone implants.
  • Inframammary (under the breast) - Inconspicuous scarring for both silicone and saline breast implants.
  • Transaxillary (in the armpit) - Scarring is kept away from the breast but can be more difficult to conceal. Generally only viable with saline implants.

To best determine which breast implant options are right for your physical and aesthetic needs, Dr. Mandraccia will perform a thorough evaluation during your personal consultation.
